FARMS 2 FOOD SHELF PROGRAM

The objective of this program is to provide low-income families with the most nutrient-rich, fresh produce possible, while economically supporting local growers/farmers in the Brainerd Lakes Area of Minnesota. The food is currently utilized by Pine River-Backus Family Center's Food Shelf and CommUnity meals in Pine River, and the Lakes Area Food Shelf in Pequot Lakes. Initially funded by two Sourcewell grants, 2024 marks the third growing season for this program and financial sustainability.

Moving households from food insecurity to nutrition security is a key objective for this program as good nutrition is key to learning, health, stable relationships and more.
